Adivasi Lives Matter is a platform that works toward amplifying Adivasi and Tribal voices of India. The initiative was started in 2016 so that Adivasi/Tribal youth and individuals can create articles and videos highlighting their lives and culture. In the last two years, ALM has trained around 150 youths in the art of digital storytelling. These young girls and boys in turn, have contributed 400+ articles and videos highlighting Adivasi issues, language, and culture. ALM trains and enables Adivasis to become digital storytellers, so they have the tools to express themselves in their own way and publish their work on a website, YouTube channel, and social media pages.
What excites us about their work:
- Working in a highly neglected area of concern: Adivasi voices and narratives (instead of the usual focus on welfare and livelihood); creating visibility and dignity through agency and self-representation
- Using digital literacy and tools to bring underrepresented voices to the mainstream, and moving towards building their own stories in the public domain and shaping the public narrative instead of having others represent them
- Democratising access to digital tools and information
