Equipping Gender Equity in Boys

Equal Community Foundation that every boy in India should be raised to be gender equitable to prevent an emerging epidemic of violence. India has 230 million boys under the age of 18, who as adults are estimated to participate in and perpetuate violence against women. Their work is to create gender transformative programmes and interventions, to support boys’ transformation with behaviour and attitudes while working alongside women and girl programmes, especially focused on marginalised low-income communities. They take a longitudinal approach and believe in impacting peers and families, and communities.

What excites us about their work:

  • Work in an under-represented area where under 5% of all gender equality programmes focus on: the education of young boys, who are a critical demographic in the prevention of violence socially.
  • Working with a longitudinal focus along the intersection of the individual and community
  • Working laterally with private and government organisations to create knowledge resources to access young boys and help them change their behaviours and ability to go on to make a change in gender equitable ways
  • Building a key area of research to support the work of assisting boys and men and working that can help other gender equality endeavours.
